Every parent needs these

1. CLOTH NAPPIES
No, not to use on baby's bum unless that's your thing, but I'm not talking about MCN's here, I'm talking about the old school large white terry cloth squares. These have been invaluable for all number of uses from mopping up spew, chucking over your shoulder at burping time, rolled up propped under baby's chest during tummy time, wrapped around baby while in the exersaucer for a bit of cushion, as a pillow under baby's head while laying on the floor, under baby's face to catch any vomit, under baby's bum for nappy free time, under baby's bum in the pram or car seat to catch a nappy leakage. The list is endless. Big W sell Big Softies in both white and coloured packs of 8 cloth nappies for $20.

2. BABY WIPES
Not only good for wiping baby's bum, baby wipes have loads of uses around the house. I buy our usual $20 big box of wipes for the kids and a cheaper box for other uses. Kmart and Target sell their own generic home brand of wipes- about 800-1000 wipes for $10. I have heard some people argue that they just add to landfill and waste and are no good for the environment however I argue this:
1. I have not had to use harsh chemicals on my shower or bath since using baby wipes. Baby wipes clean off soap scum and grime off the shower glass and bath tub better than any scrub and chemical spray I have ever used and don't forget, I boast some serious chemical power under my kitchen sink.
2. I have not had to buy nearly as much paper towel to clean the kids hands and face after meals, wipes are softer on the skin, smaller in size than paper towel and far cheaper.
3. Our chux roll usage is down too, again, far cheaper, less waste and lets face it, the person that said a chux wipe could be re-used was certainly not talking about re-using the same chux wipe they used to clean the toilet on the kitchen counter were they? And once you do clean the toilet with the chux wipe do you keep it? Come on now, really? One wipe over with a bit of disinfectant spray and you flush the wipe same as toilet paper.

So, overall you save money and I believe you are contributing less to waste than some seem to argue. And you have fun finding stuff around the house to clean with a baby wipe- skirting boards, for dusting, cleaning shoes, wiping down leather couch, banister, hand rails the list is endless.

3. BLUEY PADS

These were probably similar to something you saw in hospital during labour and after baby was born. They are super absorbent and great for when baby comes home. Baby will wee EVERY time they have nappy free time and perhaps during nappy changes as well. If you have carpet, in order to do nappy free time successfully you're going to need quite a few towels to ensure wee doesn't seep into that precious carpet you've tried so hard to keep clean all these years. Instead of increasing your wash load, these blueys above are super thin and come in a box of 300 for about $57 and scrunch up to form minimal waste- about the size of a new born nappy once scrunched so they fit with a nappy in a nappy sack.

During the first few weeks I used these under baby for nappy free time, under baby during floor and tummy time to mop up spills and always always always used them on the change table to catch any mess. Again, rather than changing the change table mattress cover daily I used a bluey under baby.

Intouch Direct is an incontinence website and for this item they are the cheapest site. I've ordered 3 boxes over the past 2 years and have found them to help considerably reduce the amount of washing I do and when you think about it even though you've spent $57 on the box of blueys you've saved by not using as much soap powder, electricity and water- I have friends who do a load a day where as I'd do far less and I save time too.
